Nicole Karlis is an Oakland-based writer covering health, science, and gender. Currently, she’s a full-time staff writer at Salon where she’s covered health, science, Silicon Valley and California culture since 2017. Prior to that she was a contributing editor at The Bold Italic, a Bay Area culture magazine. Her writing has also appeared in The New York Times and Marie Claire. In 2020, she was selected to participate in the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism’s 2020 California¬†Fellowship.
